We are proud to announce that we are officially a Community Interest Company.
In 2021 the LGBTQ+ Law Clinic was founded in Cardiff, Wales, as part of the Justice First Fellowship. We sought to provide free legal services to the LGBTQ+ community in England and Wales, at a time when hate crimes against those who identity as LGBTQ+, in particular trans individuals, were increasing.
From its inception, the Clinic became a vital source of legal support and knowledge, with it being the only non-university affiliated Clinic providing advice to the LGBTQ+ community in the UK, on all areas of the law.
Since then, we have received over 700 enquiries to the Clinic, initiated one of a kind projects, and won two national awards. Our reputation has grown and we now work with many international law firms in providing advice and representation.
We have achieved all of this relying on unpaid volunteers, and without any external funding. It became clear that to achieve our plans for the future, we needed to take the next step in our evolution. And that step was becoming a Community Interest Company.
Thank you to all of the law firms and lawyers who have supported us on this journey, and a special thanks to Herbert Smith Freehills, who supported us in registering as a CIC. To all of our volunteers and supportive organisations such as the Legal Education Foundation and LawWorks, we could not have done it without you. And to all of those who have used our service, followed us, liked our posts, and showed us love. Our appreciation is immeasurable.
We have many exciting plans for the future, which include an in-person family law clinic in London and Cardiff, a new website, a host of know your rights booklets, and to continue building capacity to provide free and professional legal advice.
Here is to our future!
